The "Most Scenic Campground in Colorado"
"If you should, in your imagination, put together in one small group, perhaps 12 miles square, all the heights and depths, the rugged precipices and polished faces of rock, and all the sharp pinnacles and deeply indented crests, and twenty times the inaccessible summits that both of us have ever seen, you would not have a picture equal to this."
- W.H. Holmes, describing the San Juan Mountains in 1876.
The 137 acre Molas Lake Park and Campground peacefully sits among the most spectacular peaks in the Rocky Mountains. Completely surrounded by national forest and other public land, camping at Molas Park is an experience like no other. Park guests enjoy fishing a well-stocked, twenty-five acre lake, immediate access to the Colorado Trail and other hiking opportunities, star-gazing in the evenings (no light pollution here!), and simply relaxing and taking in the amazing views.
Completely renovated in 2007 and 2008, Molas Lake Park and Campground features forty-five campsites serving tent-campers (including several walk-up sites), small rv's and pop-ups, and a few sites over fifteen hundred square feet to serve even the largest of RVs. The park has one water pump, several clean and new vault-style restrooms, showers, and a dump-station for rvs.
Named the "most scenic campground in Colorado" by AAA, Molas Lake Park and Campground is most memorable not for its new picnic tables or fire rings, but for the amazing beauty that surrounds it.
